Legal Assistant Job Description
Our Law Firm Legal Assistant has the primary responsibility to provide support to the lawyers in one or more of the areas of practice.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Open files for new clients, both physical folders and in PC Law
- Organize and manage client files and information using PC Law
- Prepare documents for filing in court
- Prepare and deliver correspondence such as reporting letters, requisitions and statements
- Relate professionally to beneficiaries, related parties and the court
- Perform online and manual searches
- Provide backup reception services – answering calls and talking with clients
- Assist with scheduling and client intake when necessary
Qualifications
- Administrative assistant experience is helpful, however this can be trained
- Basic accounting skills
- Microsoft Word and Outlook familiarity
- Above average keyboarding skills
- Detail oriented, especially with spelling and grammar
- Skills in organizing, communicating and managing time
- Able to work independently, take initiative and work with minimal supervision
- Work well as a team with lawyers and other staff
- Able to multi-task and prioritize competing deadlines
- PC Law is our legal software of choice, we can train you in this
- Legal administration diploma is helpful
- Other duties as assigned – could include:
- Delivering files to Morden, Altona or other professional offices

Lawyers at our firm practice in the areas of corporate and commercial law, real estate, wills and estates, family law, civil litigation, and municipal law.
